When I came back from my holiday, I bought socks for my manager as I always notice that he has 'windows' in almost all of his socks. When asked why he doesn't want to get new socks, his answer will always be 'its for proper feet ventilation' or 'I'll get my wife to sew it back one day'. So when he saw his new socks, he was so over the moon. He left it in one of the drawers at the restaurant for safe keeping.
Just now, he was frantically looking for me and asking how many pairs of socks I got for him. He found out that one pair was missing and couldn't believe how anyone would even want to steal socks. He went round to all the staff including the kitchen asking them to lift up their pants to check what socks they were wearing. Super hysterical, I must say. Everyone was laughing at him while he was still keen on finding the socks. It's the first time I saw someone behaving that way over just one pair of socks.
I just realise that as peoples' wallet grow thicker and the more plastic cards they have, the more arrogant, inconsiderate, impatient and stingy they become. Well besides those one in million you find that still behave like an average human, all the people in this categories treats all front line people (receptionist, waiter/waitress, customer service) like as though we're slaves to them. How they talk to us, behave towards us, look at us as though we are not entitled to any feelings.
For instance, in a group of more than 10, some guests foods are brought to the table first, those without food will frantically wave to the waiter insisting they have to eat now. Come on, the waiter only have 2 hands for goodness sake. How would you expect him to carry all plates at one go? Or lets say when they want to celebrate a surprise birthday, definitely the cake will have to served first not the sharing plates and cutlery's or else it won't be a surprise anymore but these people just couldn't seem to wait.
Or when the guest enter the restaurant and you greet them, they couldn't even be bothered to greet you back or smile or at LEAST LOOK AT THE PERSON GREETING THEM! They just walk straight into the restaurant as thought it was their father's place. As if we're invisible. How would you feel?
At my work place, we work split shift, (11-3pm,5-11pm) but these people don't know how tiring it is to work split shifts (with their current background and thick wallet, why do they need a split shift work) so during our split shift, when we do not get paid, but the guest still insist on not leaving the restaurant and still stay and chat like there's no tomorrow, we still have to serve them. If they just chat among themselves and let us rest it's okay, but to still ask for us to serve them is a bit to much. And when we politely inform that we're already closed, they still refuse to leaving and we're unhappy, tell me issit our fault? They have all the time in the world to waste but we don't. Or how about when all the tables are occupied and these people walk in with no reservations and when informed it's full, they're unhappy and wants to meet the management and start complaining the restaurant does not have enough tables or the space is not use to it's maximum capacity. WTF?! There's plenty of places to eat out there THAT HAVE PLENTY OF TABLES unoccupied and they can even sleep on it. Let's say, maybe... Kopitiam? How unreasonable can these people get?
They also drive to the place with very posh cars. So tell me, aren't they a bit embarrassed when they drive in with an Audi R8 but still ask for discounts? Is that a rented car? or their daddy's?
Fuck it. I can't continue this anymore. I shall stop it here cause no matter how much I rant on, they will never change.
Ok
Ciao
